Mandatory Travel
Riddle says that online programs are increasingly requiring students to get some “bricks-and-mortar” experience. This may be done through an introduction, a weeklong intensive learning experience, or a graduation ceremony to allow online students to meet their classmates and professors in person.
These excursions will cost you more to travel, especially if the destination is in a city other than your own.
Riddle says, “It’s magical to see my students who are taking my online classes meet before they cross the stage.” It’s great to see how much joy is there. It’s fun to see the extra joy that is there. It’s a special opportunity for them to meet in person their classmates and their families. “But that’s an expense.”
